03.04 pm – Started packing 2 hours before flight.

04.14 pm – Arrived at Penang International Airport

with this fella 45 minutes before our flight departed.

Cool thing was, I had already checked in both of us 4 days ago and printed out the boarding pass.

So we just walked into the departure gate and waited for our plane to arrive.

How convenient!

05.10 pm – I liked the fact that AirAsia uses the loading bridge when it rains in Penang International Airport.

05.22 pm – It was cool to get to read October’s Travel 3 Sixty barely 5 days after I read September’s version during 5D4N Philippines.

It would be cool to have your face there. Really. Cool.

Jian Loong immersed in the travel articles.

05.50 pm – Had my favourtie RM2 Shandong Peanuts snack on board.

06.30 pm – Landed.

Went straight to the KLIA Transit counter which was closed.

Then proceeded to bus stand no.6 where the buses are.

So we just bought a ticket from

the person sitting down at the at bus stand

and waited until 6.55pm

before we boarded the bus.

07.26 pm – Arrived at Stesen Salak Selatan KLIA Transit.

07.37 pm – Boarded the super fast train to/from KLIA and KL Sentral.

07.49 pm – 10 minutes later, we arrived in Stesen Putrajaya/Cyberjaya KLIA Transit and were met by Boon Keat and Chim.

08.06 pm – We wasted no time and traveled straight to Kian Haw’s new house.

08.26 pm – Hung around until it was time to meet the rest in

McDonald’s for dinner.

11.33 pm – After 2½ hours of driving, we arrived at My Budget Inn in Muar, Johor.

The entrance.

The hallway to the rooms.

Kar Fei and my room for the next 2 nights.

12.27 am – After settling down, a few of us went over to Ching Hwa the groom’s house to see him and catch up.

We also watched the video that was shown during the wedding in Klang a week back.

01.07 am – Dropped by 7 Eleven for bottled water before heading back for some sleep.

5D4N Philippines Day 1 : Tune Hotels, KLIA LCCT Airpot, Travel 3 Sixty, Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, Smart Buddy Sim Card, Jeepney, DM Residente, Savers Mall, Jollibee, Catsup, San Miguel Light, Fields Avenue, Pagcor, Burger McDo, Palabok

05.23 am – After about 2 hours of sleep, we woke up. I didn’t really get much sleep because you could hear the doors of other guests around the building banging shut at Tune Hotels in LCCT-KLIA. Pretty much like what I experienced in Tune Hotels Kuta, Bali.

I took a shower first.

Then roomie.

05.32 am – 10 minutes later, we were on the feeder bus from Tune Hotels to the airport.

5 minutes later

we arrived at LCCT-KLIA and I was VERY SURPRISED to see SO SO SO SO MANY people at the airport at this time of the day.

05.46 am – Collected everyone’s passport and

proceeded to check in. I was surprised to see SO SO SO SO many middle aged Indian, all men only, lining up for the same flight as us.

15 minutes later, we got our boarding pass.

06.06 am – Had breakfast at the FOREVER CROWDED McDonald’s.

Forever crowded lines by the counter.

Big breakfast it is.

06.52 am – Proceeded to the international departure hall to wait.

07.06 am – Boarding call.

07.11 am – What an early flight!

As our names are arranged in alphabetical order, Chris sat beside Andy the giant and Anthony the manatee. It was pretty uncomfortable sitting beside 2 giants.

5 minutes later.

08.20 am – Started reading AirAsia’s interesting in flight magazine, Travel 3 Sixty.

10.46 am – Had a packet of my favourite AirAsia snack, the cheap RM2 Shandong peanuts.

Filled up the Customs Declaration form. One word of warning for first timers. Please do not bring Philippine Pesos exceeding PHP 10,000 as the corrupted immigration officers will ask you for your wallet and check you. And if you exceed PHP 10,000, they will hold your passport and ask you for bribes. I had to pay PHP 500 / RM 35. Pukimak, lanciao!

11.21 am – Arrived safely at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.

12.02 pm – First thing I did after getting out from the airport was to buy a sim card.

Smart was the no.1 telecommunication company in Philippines so we just opted for it.

12.05 pm – Advice : look for the airport’s jeepney stand as the taxis are very expensive.

The jeepney is the MOST POPULAR mode of transportation in the Philippines.

Our first ever jeepney ride!

Cloudy.

The wires above the buildings remind me so much of my Bangkok trips.

12.50 pm – Arrived at our hotel, DM Residente.

Only 1 room was ready at the time and we left our luggages in it and went out for lunch.

In trikes! haha. What an experience!

Arrived in Saver’s Mall.

01.02 pm – Jollibee, Filipino’s favourite fast food chain restaurant.

Lined up for our first ever Philippine food experience.

The counter.

Order a set of Jollibee spaghetti with yum burger.

Impossible! Cat soup?

Haha. Actually, catsup = ketchup.

The utensils and sauce counter by the side.

Us in Jollibee.

Spaghetti bolognese with yum burger.

05.51 am – Woke up to a heart healthy breakfast.

Bags packed and ready to go!

06.59 am – Reached Penang International Airport.

Put a luggage through security check.

Checked in and got our tickets.

The Leslie’s girlfriend, Leslie and Vivian.

07.50 am – Waited by the boarding gate.

08.20 am – By this time, we were up in the sky.

Due to watching the World Cup semifinal match between Spain and Germany.

Browsed through AirAsia’s awesome in flight magazine.

09.26 am – We landed.

Walking pass the looooooooooooooooooooong corridors

towards the arrival hall

of the low cost airport.

Took us 4 minutes.

09.43 am – After collecting our luggage (10 minutes),

we went to the always-full restaurant for a meal.

Ordered a McValue Sausage with muffin set.

After I was done with breakfast,

I took the an empty bottle and went to

get it refilled at 1 of 2 water fountains in LCCT.

This one was located opposite Starbucks.

11.03 am – Not long after, this girl arrived.

The 4 fellas traveling to Melbourne (plus me).

11.13 am – Started queuing up.

The yellow sticker was the one from Penang Airport. I only learned that you would have to go through LCCT’s security even though you may have passed the one in Penang.

11.35 am – 20 minutes later,

we arrived at the front.

Got our boarding pass and proceeded to OldTown,

one of my 2 favourite places for a meal in LCCT.

Hungry people.

Vivian searching for her

camera. One thing I liked about this trip was every one of us carried a camera, a total of 4, which was good as no one was left out in pictures. How I wished my circle of friends would carry a camera each time we go on trips. =(

Her meal.

My meal.

Bought boxes of cigarettes from Eraman’s duty free shop at the departure gate for friends in Melbourne.

12.34 pm – The LCD screen outside the departure gate.

Don’t really know what to say.

Ciggies.

And so we waited outside till it was time

cause inside was already so damn packed.

01.25 pm – After about 1 hour of waiting, we finally boarded AirAsia’s Airbus A330. During my trips to Bangkok, Bali, Kota Kinabalu, etc, AirAsia only uses the smaller Airbus A320.

This is my first time on an aircraft so wide, by Airasia. It was 9 abreast with 3 at each aisle. The back was more spacious as it was only 7 abreast.

Even the menu was different.

Look at that. Huge variety.

Meals found only in the Airbus A330.

Drinks not found in the Airbus A320.

RM3 for a bottle of mineral water. Later, I found out that the mineral water bought a-la-carte was more in volume compared to the one that comes with the meal.

The snacks set.

Was pretty tempted to try the smoked chicken focaccia but wasn’t sure if it was filling enough.

01.45 pm – We took off.

As soon as the plane stabilized itself in the air, foreigners to Australia were given

the incoming passenger card, just like during Bali 2010, Bangkok 2008 and Bangkok 2009.

After that, the stewardesses started handing out the comfort kit which I bought online at AirAsia.com for RM30.

Bangkok Trip 2009 : Day 1

07.30 am – Had soft boiled eggs,

a cup of oats milk,

an apple and

a loaf of bread.

08.30 am – This fella arrived.

Off we went in Dad’s car.

09.30 am – 6 of Bangkok 8 having breakfast at

Pinang Kopitiam. The other missing 2 consisted of the smoking one who was keeping the hiding one company. 😈 Sorry bro, had to pecah ur kang tao when checking in cause Tonkap teman-ed me.

My boarding pass.

The arrival card for international travelers arriving into Bangkok.

Wen huan : “I’m going to Bangkok, Ma!”

My roomie. Felt like sneaking a scissors in and cut out his fringe.

10.00 am – Everyone successfully passing through the boarding gate.

10.30 am – Our plane.

Look at the smile on everyone’s face. That’s what happens to anyone who travels to the ‘Land of Smiles’.

Airbus A320’s computer system.

Looks new, smells new.

“Take a peep and throw this jacket up into the air if you feel excited.”

As it was just a week after the Bangkok protests, the last 15 rows at the back of the plane was empty. 4 of us conquered ourselves a lot of space. On my left was Gaekap and

Tingkap at the

back.

In front of me was Jaekap.

AirAsia’s in flight magazine. Nice.

The air cond was so cold that you could see the smoky coldness coming out from the vents. The picture isn’t really clear. You gotta be in there to see the coolness of the smokiness.

10 minutes later.

Couldn’t help it. I just had to order this. I missed it the last time. Couldn’t afford to miss it this time around.

Had a bottle of Mount Fleur. hMMmmm…. fleur… sounds familiar.. 😈

Spent my first 1000 baht.

Another 15 minutes later.

Our champion again.

Got my water and

tom yam when the food tray reached my spot.

MY GAWD!! It smells soooOOOOOOooo gooooooooooooood!

11.30 am – And we have landed! woooOOOOO!!!! Bangkok 8 in Suvarnabhumi airport.

We just couldn’t wait to get out and breathe in some Thai air.

As soon as we got out, I went out to get maps from

the counter here.

6 of us bought ourselves a prepaid SIM card for THB100.

And Happy it was.

My Thai number.

Minus 1 hour from my watch.

Jaekap, Gaekap,

Songkap and I were in the same taxi.

01.00 pm – Half an hour later, we arrived at All Seasons Siam Bangkok. Nice hotel.

Nicer than our previous one. But not as strategic location wise.

02.00 pm – Left for Grand Palace of Bangkok. My taximates and I arrvied first. The other car was lost. The taxi driver ‘got lost on the way to Grand Palace’. Cockshit. How can you not know where Grand Palace is?

Anyways, we found our coffee shop

right next to Thammasat University and

went in first.

We were so hungry we could eat a whole Tonkap.

Our first authentic Thai meal. Mee krob.

Ka mu tom yam.

The rest arrived about half an hour later.

By that time, we’ve already finished.

03.00 pm – We almost got conned again. We almost decided NOT to check out the Grand Palace because of the touts standing at the entrance.

Luckily we decided to U-turn and managed to get in smoothly. As you can’t wear shorts in the vicinity of the temple, we paid the deposit and rented a pair of capoeira pants each.

The entrance.

The only group picture taken of the 8 of us together.

I took lots of pictures.

Lots.

The architecture of the Grand Palace was so beautiful.

Amazing.

Breathtaking.

How do you think I look in my capoeira pants?

I thought of making fun of the soldiers, but didn’t dare to.

I didn’t wanna die.

Arrived at the pants centre first and returned my capoeira pants. It was so hot that by the time I took them off, my nuts were already roasted crisp brown.

Dress code.

Saw a mini coconut ice cream stall outside and bought ourselves some.

~yum. However, I still prefer Midlands Park’s. More flavour.

05.00 pm – Arrived at Siam Paragon. ~ah, air cond at last.

(Side note: while writing this draft, I felt so much the urge to go back to Bangkok. I hope that we can go back there together some day. For someone’s bachelor party hopefully.)

Took a rest at the food court.

Taxi fare settlement.

05.30 pm – Took the juniors for a walk around the place. =P

7 of 8.

06.00 pm – Took a BTS Skytrain from Siam station to Nana station.

And then Gaekap bought

a pair of sandals for himself.

06.30 pm – Arrived at Foodland Supermarket and

went shopping for

cartons after cartons of water to last us till Day 5.

Paid 54.50 baht per carton.

07.00 pm – Found Took Lae Dee, which was part of the supermarket, and had dinner there.

The menu had so many choices of food.

In the end, I settled for phat thai.

The cool thing about this place was that patrons ate on a counter.

As such, it was pretty difficult for us all to sit next to each other.

10 minutes later. It was sooOOOOOOOOOOOooo delicious!!!!!!! Crazy delicious!!!!!!!!! I miss! I miss!

So was the caramel custard.

09.00 pm – Went back to the hotel straight after dinner, changed and came out again. Was caught in a road block. Thank God our taxi guy wasn’t a ‘red shirt’.

09.30 pm – Arrived at Grand Centara. Took the first lift up to the 22nd floor.

Went out of the halfway point and took the other lift to

Red Sky.

~fuh. I tell you. The view from here is magnificent man. Superb.

The internal structure of the restaurant was planned out so damn well.

Songkap said he felt at home. Home as in places where the high society in Bangkok hang out. nah ..|..

Ordered myself Red Sky’s very own cocktail creation. The Centara Pearl.

While the drinks were being prepapred, we took a tour around the restaurant ourselves and discovered several interesting items.

First was this HUGE, and when I say HUGE, I mean DAMN HUGE wine cellar.

It was 2 floors high.

Next was this light thingy on the floor.

So cool. Macam volcano lava flowing to the floor, forming the words RED SKY.

And then my drink came.

It looked pretty fruity.

11.00 pm – Went to THE place where cowboys of Bangkok go to.

Soi Cowboy.

Man. This place is choke full of Thai girls. And foreigners. Both men and women. Young Americans, British, Europeans. And old grannies too. Surprisingly.

I saw pretty eye opening stuff that I have never ever seen before in my life. Before this, I’ve only heard of them before in travels of my friends and relatives.

03.00 am – Went back to the 7-Eleven nearby our hotel and

bought an instant stir fried chicken with basil and rice for supper.

Tonkap deciding among the choices available.

Had to buy a prepaid card by this time as my credit has already finished.

It smells good man, I tell you. Tastes good too! Man, I miss it so much. I miss the availability of pork everywhere I go.

05.00 am – zzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
