6D5N Taipei Day 6 : Ximending, McDonalds, KFC Egg Tarts, Angry Birds Plush, Ay Chung Flour Rice Noodle, Aiyu Jelly, Betel Nut Beauty, Taoyuan Airport, Honbaryu Spicy Beef Noodle Soup, AirasiaX, Chicken Lasagna

09.17 am – Woke up and took a loooooooong walk by myself around the hotel’s surrounding. Although I’m still physically here, I’ve already started missing Taipei so much!

Passed by the fresh brunch stall by the hotel.

Checked out the menu. Didn’t seem to find anything that interested me.

~aah~ the nearby Ximending on a Tuesday morning. Empty.

Ximending police station.

A huge billboard of Eason Chan by the entrance of Ximending.

Breakfast at McDonald’s crossed my mind as no fast food was consumed during the entire trip.

The streets being cleaned.

KFC occupying the upper floors.

One of the very few breakfast shops opened.

I had all the intention of the world to give this auntie some business but there were 2 problems. One, I cannot read Mandarin. Two, I cannot speak Mandarin. =(

It just didn’t cross my mind to check out Japanese food in Taiwan. Didn’t feel right I suppose.

Walk walk walk.

A free newspaper stand.

However, it is unlike theSun back in Malaysia as it was choke full of advertisements!

09.32 – And so after about 15 minutes of walking around Ximending, I finally settled on McDonald’s.

The counter.

The dining area.

Hot pancakes, egg mcmuffin, hash brown and a cup of coffee for breakfast.

Actually, I didn’t notice this throw away area until I saw people taking their trays here after eating. I think that’s why we found the dining area of the 7 Eleven near our hotel barricaded from the 4th night onwards. (for not clearing up after ourselves)

Ximen station, the starting point of many of our journeys night and day.

10.14 am – Started packing. So sad!!!

Unused voucher during our trip up Taipei 101. Taiwan beer float didn’t sound that inviting.

Targeted places missed during this trip. Ningxia road night market.

Jinquashi gold mine that was closed when we arrived on Day 2.

Missed shopping for clothes in Wufenpu and Raohe night market.

Missed Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall.

Missed Beitou Hot Springs + Hell Valley. Mannnn.. 6 days just ain’t enough!

Missed Primo night club. =(

Didn’t get the chance to experience Spark or Twiice too. Actually, we missed so much that when we come back for the 2nd time , it’ll still be like a totally new experience!

Souveniers, souveniers. The glutinous rice balls and pineapple tarts were so good!!!!!! Totally heavenly!!

11.59 am – Went to Ximending for the second time after everyone woke up.

12.13 pm – Last minute souvenir shopping.

The complete collection of Angry Birds.

If you notice carefully, Geoffrey and Gabriel, both who are sitting down, are getting conned to buy super expensive pens to support the “so called girls who need the money for studying”. hehehehehehehe

12.16 pm – I just couldn’t help it.

Just had to have a bowl of Ay Chung flour rice noodles before leaving.

It’s just sooooooooooooooooooooooooo good!

Love it!

12.35 pm – At this point, we all splitted up to do our own exploring and last minute shopping.

Passed by an aiyu jelly shop.

Just couldn’t help it.

Zoomed in and out the mini lanes of Ximending, checking the products on display on both sides of the street.

A rather famous Taiwanese beef noodles shop.

Didn’t eat any as I was so damn full from ay chung. So damn.

KL, here we come!

07.29 am – Arrived at the departure gates. So sad. The first day being the happiest and the last being the saddest. =(

09.25 am – Take off!

10.17 am – Brunch time!

Vivian’s boring brunch. =P

Fortune cookie says…

10.39 am – Began watching The Game starring Michael Douglas and Sean Penn.

12.35 pm – Added an hour to the watch.

3D2N Muar Day 3 : My Budget Inn, Otak Otak Daily Happy

09.09 am – Woke up and went down to My Budget Inn’s My Budget Cafe for breakfast.

Eggs, toast, coffee and

tuna sandwiches.

All for RM7.50.

10.00 am – Played with Kar Fei’s iPhone4 while waiting for everyone to pack up and leave.

10.55 am – Checked out.

The prices of the room. Cheapest I have ever stayed in. Thanks Ching Hwa!

11.13 pm – Went into town for brunch.

Decided on Kedai Makanan Dan Minuman Yong Kee.

Walked over to a fried oyster stall in another coffee shop with

this fella and

ordered RM6 worth of fried oyster.

Ah pek doing his stuff.

Only found 1 oyster. Full of flour. RM6 my ass.

Otak otak sticks.

Walked over to the stall we had drinks in after Ching Hwa’s wedding last night.

Bought myself a drink.

Jars of pops and pulps.

Sour plum juice with sour plum pop.

12.27 pm – Went over to the source of the most delicious otak otak in the world called Otak Otak Daily Happy.

Can you please send stock to me in Penang every Friday?

Bought myself 3 packets of fish and 3 packets of prawns flavoured otak otak.

Everybody bought at least 4 packets.

01.13 pm – After we bid farewell to Ching Hwa, we continued on with our journey back to reality =(

02.07 pm – Stopping by to refuel.

03.20 pm – Arrived in LCCT, 30 minutes before our plane departed. Luckily, I’ve already checked us in 6 days ago and printed out the itinerary.

I was surprised to see so so so so so many people in the domestic departure gates.

04.21 pm – Another contest to win ^.^

3D2N Muar Day 1 : AirAsia Boarding Pass, Travel 3 Sixty, Shandong Peanuts, KLIA Transit, KLIA-LCCT, My Budget Inn

03.04 pm – Started packing 2 hours before flight.

04.14 pm – Arrived at Penang International Airport

with this fella 45 minutes before our flight departed.

Cool thing was, I had already checked in both of us 4 days ago and printed out the boarding pass.

So we just walked into the departure gate and waited for our plane to arrive.

How convenient!

05.10 pm – I liked the fact that AirAsia uses the loading bridge when it rains in Penang International Airport.

05.22 pm – It was cool to get to read October’s Travel 3 Sixty barely 5 days after I read September’s version during 5D4N Philippines.

It would be cool to have your face there. Really. Cool.

Jian Loong immersed in the travel articles.

05.50 pm – Had my favourtie RM2 Shandong Peanuts snack on board.

06.30 pm – Landed.

Went straight to the KLIA Transit counter which was closed.

Then proceeded to bus stand no.6 where the buses are.

So we just bought a ticket from

the person sitting down at the at bus stand

and waited until 6.55pm

before we boarded the bus.

07.26 pm – Arrived at Stesen Salak Selatan KLIA Transit.

07.37 pm – Boarded the super fast train to/from KLIA and KL Sentral.

07.49 pm – 10 minutes later, we arrived in Stesen Putrajaya/Cyberjaya KLIA Transit and were met by Boon Keat and Chim.

08.06 pm – We wasted no time and traveled straight to Kian Haw’s new house.

08.26 pm – Hung around until it was time to meet the rest in

McDonald’s for dinner.

11.33 pm – After 2½ hours of driving, we arrived at My Budget Inn in Muar, Johor.

The entrance.

The hallway to the rooms.

Kar Fei and my room for the next 2 nights.

12.27 am – After settling down, a few of us went over to Ching Hwa the groom’s house to see him and catch up.

We also watched the video that was shown during the wedding in Klang a week back.

01.07 am – Dropped by 7 Eleven for bottled water before heading back for some sleep.

5D4N Philippines Day 5 : DM Residente, Philippine Airport Tax, KLIA-LCCT, AirAsia Self Check In Kiosk, LCCT Food Garden

09.10 am – Woke up to a very sad Monday.

As the saying goes, ‘All good things must come to an end’.

09.30 am – After successfully checking out, we hopped into the van

and proceeded towards the airport.

Fields Avenue, the area where we stayed in is actually very near the airport.

09.43 am – Security checks by the entrance.

The very empty, open spaced airport.

There were a total of 4 security checks beginning from the entrance to the airport and my bottles of San Miguel and Red Horse were confiscated from me. =(

Received our boarding pass but everyone leaving from Diosdado Macapagal International Airport had to pay PHP600 worth of airport tax.

I don’t understand why it isn’t included in our flight tickets.

10.26 am – The stalls at the departure lounge.

The only place that sells rice.

Salty and tastes like crap. Very unlike the usual Filipino food.

Went to get something more from Mister Donut.

Looks like shit. Tastes like shit.

Big Apple / J.Co is any day better than Mister Donut.

11.28 am – Began the long walk to

our plane.

Sat beside the giants again.

This time, we were all neighbours.

Directly beside each other.

12.53 pm – Ordered a drink only as the aircraft ran out of food?

Lucky they still have my favourite RM2 Shandong peanuts.

01.30 pm – The lack of sleep caught up to us.

03.26 pm – Landed in KLIA-LCCT.

Walked the long journey back to the arrival hall.

03.56 pm – Waited for Anthony to buy his duty free ciggies.

04.22 pm – Decided to give AirAsia’s check in kiosk another chance after it failed during my trip to Bali earlier this year

Today, it worked!

Checked in and printed out the boarding passes for the remaining 6 Penang brothers successfully.

04.27 pm – After that, I took the long walk

along the long corridor

to KLIA-LCCT’s new humongous food court called Food Garden.

BIG.

Naturally, the healthiest choice is mixed rice.

Penang’s nasi campur is any day better than this, but then again, this is the best that anyone can get at the moment.

05.19 pm – After the heavy meal at Food Garden, the 2 KL brothers continued their journey back home while the rest hung around Starbucks.

Lined up and

got ourselves drinks.

07.42 pm – Dinner at Taste Of Asia.

09.09 pm – Entered the domestic departure hall and

waited for our plane to arrive.

The pretty empty place on a Monday night.

10.47 pm – I actually wanted to order a Roast Chicken Thigh with BBQ Sauce but was told that they ran out of food supplies already.

11.02 pm – We were all so damn tired.

12.17 am – Home sweet home.

5D4N Philippines Day 1 : Tune Hotels, KLIA LCCT Airpot, Travel 3 Sixty, Diosdado Macapagal International Airport, Smart Buddy Sim Card, Jeepney, DM Residente, Savers Mall, Jollibee, Catsup, San Miguel Light, Fields Avenue, Pagcor, Burger McDo, Palabok

05.23 am – After about 2 hours of sleep, we woke up. I didn’t really get much sleep because you could hear the doors of other guests around the building banging shut at Tune Hotels in LCCT-KLIA. Pretty much like what I experienced in Tune Hotels Kuta, Bali.

I took a shower first.

Then roomie.

05.32 am – 10 minutes later, we were on the feeder bus from Tune Hotels to the airport.

5 minutes later

we arrived at LCCT-KLIA and I was VERY SURPRISED to see SO SO SO SO MANY people at the airport at this time of the day.

05.46 am – Collected everyone’s passport and

proceeded to check in. I was surprised to see SO SO SO SO many middle aged Indian, all men only, lining up for the same flight as us.

15 minutes later, we got our boarding pass.

06.06 am – Had breakfast at the FOREVER CROWDED McDonald’s.

Forever crowded lines by the counter.

Big breakfast it is.

06.52 am – Proceeded to the international departure hall to wait.

07.06 am – Boarding call.

07.11 am – What an early flight!

As our names are arranged in alphabetical order, Chris sat beside Andy the giant and Anthony the manatee. It was pretty uncomfortable sitting beside 2 giants.

5 minutes later.

08.20 am – Started reading AirAsia’s interesting in flight magazine, Travel 3 Sixty.

10.46 am – Had a packet of my favourite AirAsia snack, the cheap RM2 Shandong peanuts.

Filled up the Customs Declaration form. One word of warning for first timers. Please do not bring Philippine Pesos exceeding PHP 10,000 as the corrupted immigration officers will ask you for your wallet and check you. And if you exceed PHP 10,000, they will hold your passport and ask you for bribes. I had to pay PHP 500 / RM 35. Pukimak, lanciao!

11.21 am – Arrived safely at Diosdado Macapagal International Airport.

12.02 pm – First thing I did after getting out from the airport was to buy a sim card.

Smart was the no.1 telecommunication company in Philippines so we just opted for it.

12.05 pm – Advice : look for the airport’s jeepney stand as the taxis are very expensive.

The jeepney is the MOST POPULAR mode of transportation in the Philippines.

Our first ever jeepney ride!

Cloudy.

The wires above the buildings remind me so much of my Bangkok trips.

12.50 pm – Arrived at our hotel, DM Residente.

Only 1 room was ready at the time and we left our luggages in it and went out for lunch.

In trikes! haha. What an experience!

Arrived in Saver’s Mall.

01.02 pm – Jollibee, Filipino’s favourite fast food chain restaurant.

Lined up for our first ever Philippine food experience.

The counter.

Order a set of Jollibee spaghetti with yum burger.

Impossible! Cat soup?

Haha. Actually, catsup = ketchup.

The utensils and sauce counter by the side.

Us in Jollibee.

Spaghetti bolognese with yum burger.

10D9N Melbourne Day 10 : Metlink Metcard Two Hour Ten, Melbourne Airport, Tullamarine, Subway Sandwich, AirAsiaX Lamb Rendang Rice, Idkoop Passport Holder, AirAsia Mineral Water, Taste of Asia,

07.25 am – Woke up to the last breakfast in Melbourne.

Been loving the milk in Melbourne, tastes so much better!

All packed and ready to go.

Left the Metlink card on the table as

there were 2 more unused slots.

09.09 am – The station wagon taxi came and we loaded all our bags nicely into it.

Bye Melbourne CBD, I want to come back someday but only after I’ve been to all over the world. I might be 80 by the time I come back.

09.36 am – Reached Tullamarine airport.

Checked departure times for our flight back to KL. Status = Check in open.

There was already a crowd in front of us.

Trolley 1.

Trolley 2.

10.18 am – Checked in and got our boarding pass printed out.

Better than what you get in LCCT.

Proceeded to domestic departure hall

located in Terminal 1 as there are more

food options.

There’s Billie Chu,

Hudsons Coffee,

Nando’s and best of all

Subway.

Was pretty hungry and lined up for my sandwich.

Chose ourselves the best seats in the restaurant.

My foot long.

~ah~ what a view!

Spotted Qantas and Air New Zealand, the first airline to come up with an exciting safety demonstration video, naked!

United Airlines and Vietnam Airlines.

11.45 am – After we were done, we headed for the international departures terminal. Saw an Asian couple hugging tightly and the girl crying. *sob* *sob*.

Waited at Gate 4.

Caught a glimpse of our plane from where I was seated.

I’m liking the departure hall.

12.59 pm – The plane took off,

so did they.

02.58 pm – I woke up and wanted to buy their ePlayer for the trip

but turns out they had no more units left.

No songs or shows for me. =(

03.31 pm – Was bored.

Looked up the menu for things to eat.

Decided on a RM36

lamb rendang. Honestly, it was okay, but for RM36 is pushing it.

I wasn’t full enough so I ordered a packet of biscuits.

The view at 03.58 pm. I think we were somewhere above Indonesia.

06.29 pm – V bought herself a cute passport holder that

cost RM41 😯

07.05 pm – Dinner time!

As we had ordered our meals online,

it was kept warm for us.

Thumbs up for Smokey BBQ Chicken!!!!

The amount of water I drank throughout the 8 hour flight.

*shocked*

I noticed that the water that came with meals was 350ml and

the water that was bought a la carte contained more at 500ml.

Switched my watch

to 2 hours slower.

05.51 am – Woke up to a heart healthy breakfast.

Bags packed and ready to go!

06.59 am – Reached Penang International Airport.

Put a luggage through security check.

Checked in and got our tickets.

The Leslie’s girlfriend, Leslie and Vivian.

07.50 am – Waited by the boarding gate.

08.20 am – By this time, we were up in the sky.

Due to watching the World Cup semifinal match between Spain and Germany.

Browsed through AirAsia’s awesome in flight magazine.

09.26 am – We landed.

Walking pass the looooooooooooooooooooong corridors

towards the arrival hall

of the low cost airport.

Took us 4 minutes.

09.43 am – After collecting our luggage (10 minutes),

we went to the always-full restaurant for a meal.

Ordered a McValue Sausage with muffin set.

After I was done with breakfast,

I took the an empty bottle and went to

get it refilled at 1 of 2 water fountains in LCCT.

This one was located opposite Starbucks.

11.03 am – Not long after, this girl arrived.

The 4 fellas traveling to Melbourne (plus me).

11.13 am – Started queuing up.

The yellow sticker was the one from Penang Airport. I only learned that you would have to go through LCCT’s security even though you may have passed the one in Penang.

11.35 am – 20 minutes later,

we arrived at the front.

Got our boarding pass and proceeded to OldTown,

one of my 2 favourite places for a meal in LCCT.

Hungry people.

Vivian searching for her

camera. One thing I liked about this trip was every one of us carried a camera, a total of 4, which was good as no one was left out in pictures. How I wished my circle of friends would carry a camera each time we go on trips. =(

Her meal.

My meal.

Bought boxes of cigarettes from Eraman’s duty free shop at the departure gate for friends in Melbourne.

12.34 pm – The LCD screen outside the departure gate.

Don’t really know what to say.

Ciggies.

And so we waited outside till it was time

cause inside was already so damn packed.

01.25 pm – After about 1 hour of waiting, we finally boarded AirAsia’s Airbus A330. During my trips to Bangkok, Bali, Kota Kinabalu, etc, AirAsia only uses the smaller Airbus A320.

This is my first time on an aircraft so wide, by Airasia. It was 9 abreast with 3 at each aisle. The back was more spacious as it was only 7 abreast.

Even the menu was different.

Look at that. Huge variety.

Meals found only in the Airbus A330.

Drinks not found in the Airbus A320.

RM3 for a bottle of mineral water. Later, I found out that the mineral water bought a-la-carte was more in volume compared to the one that comes with the meal.

The snacks set.

Was pretty tempted to try the smoked chicken focaccia but wasn’t sure if it was filling enough.

01.45 pm – We took off.

As soon as the plane stabilized itself in the air, foreigners to Australia were given

the incoming passenger card, just like during Bali 2010, Bangkok 2008 and Bangkok 2009.

After that, the stewardesses started handing out the comfort kit which I bought online at AirAsia.com for RM30.

04.43 am – Woke up to a box of milk and

red dragon fruit.

05.48 am – Arrived at Penang International Airport with John.

Checking in our luggage.

9.3kg.

Got our boarding pass and proceeded to

Gate 14.

Put our bags down and

proceeded to wait.

It was only 6.30am.

By 6.55am we were already up in the plane.

07.10 am – Our plane took off on time. Well done!

The excited 7 year old kid taking pics of the clouds below.

08.00 am – Arrived at LCCT-KLIA.

Began the long journey to

the arrival hall.

The map of where we were.

Our plane from the side.

The excited 7 year old taking pics in front of the entrance.

Reporting back to Butterworth while waiting for our luggage.

08.10 am – Collected our luggage and proceeded to wait for Geoffrey to arrive so that we can combine our luggage.

08.25 am – Started making space in the check in luggage for Geoffrey.

5 minutes later.

Another 10 minutes later.

As soon as we were done we checked in our luggage.

Geoffrey’s additional 2.3 kg worth of clothes.

Collected our boarding pass and

08.40 am – proceeded to OldTown for breakfast. Note to self : Never wear pyjamas traveling in future.

Us.

Took us 7 minutes to get a table and order our food.

Coffee and

curry mee for me.

09.34 am – Walked to our Lat themed plane.

Us.

10.23 am – Mount Kinabalu, here we come.

After a while, Geoffrey was silently reading the newspaper.

John was silently playing his PSP.

But not for long.

The clouds below us.

Niceeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

12.10 pm – Lunch was served.

The chicken rice is one of the only nicest and edible meal in AirAsia’s menu. Others like the briyani and Pak Nassir’s nasi lemak may look nice but is crap and bullshit.

The cup of water that came with the online pre-ordered meal.

Geoffrey and John with their chicken rice.

12.40 pm – Well, hello KK!

Proceeded towards the domestic arrival hall.

Actually, if you are from West Malaysia, you’d still have to go through the same entrance as the international passengers.

Compulsory immigration checks.

For West Malaysians entering Sabah / Sarawak, the identification card is enough.

After that, you’ll get this of paper which is called a social pass. I lost this on the last day and almost missed my flight!

Waiting for our luggage.
