ASEAN Blogger Festival 2013

The ASEAN blogger festival is happening in Solo from 9-12 May 2013 and I’ve been personally invited. Yay! I look forward most to these 3 things from the event.

  1. Learn
  2. To absorb everything there is on offer during the blog festival. During the break out sessions on Day 2, I am sure to be in Barra’s room for the first session and Gael’s room for the second one.

  3. Socialize
  4. To make new friends and catch up with the old ones. What more can you expect from a conference of such magnitude where more than 200 international and local participants are gathered together?

  5. Experience Solo
  6. There are only 3 places in Indonesia that I’ve really, truly experienced before in my life. Beautiful Bali, Bandung aka Paris van Java, and historical Yogyakarta. Now, thanks to the organizing ASEAN Blogger Festival 2013, I get the chance to experience all that Solo has to offer like the Sukuh Temple, Sangiran Early Man Site, Mangkunegaran Palace and maybe Pasar Triwindu if time permits.

9 Things Everyone Should Know About Hard Rock Hotel Penang

In Batu Ferringhi, there are 5 other hotels that stand out other than Hard Rock, namely Shangri-La Rasa Sayang, Lone Pine, Parkroyal, Golden Sands and Holiday Inn. Shangri-La Rasa Sayang is the only 5 star hotel, making it the most expensive hotel by per room average in Batu Ferringhi. The rest are good, however Hard Rock stands out with it’s musically themed style, apparent throughout the entire hotel. It adds a sort of ‘fun’ factor enjoyable by guests of all ages.

I had the opportunity for a 3 days 2 nights stay in Hard Rock Hotel Penang recently and had a blast. At the same time, I learned many things that will help you get the most out of your stay there.

  1. Peacefulness
  2. If you enjoy tranquility like I do, pick a room that starts from 1 to about 20. For example, I stayed in 409, which is actually quite a distance from the 3 elevators located centrally at the hotel.

08.24 am – Actually, the main dining area for breakfast is in Starz Diner but due to high booking rates during the weekend, some guests were redirected to Pizzeria. Based on experience, it’s less hectic here compared to Starz Diner.

The line of pastries.

Healthy wholewheat and plain white.

Had my first ever stay for 3 days and 2 nights in Hard Rock Hotel Penang in a Seaview Deluxe room. I have to say that I loved everything about the room during my entire stay!

03.03 pm – By this time I was already halfway there, somewhere in the middle of Lemabah Permai’s winding road.

03.15 pm – 12 minutes later, signs of Hard Rock started showing up.

03.19 pm – At last, Hard Rock Hotel Penang!

Busts of The Beatles greeting you as you enter the main entrance.

Beatles again, but as murals this time.

07.42 am – Rode the motorcycle to Chong Choon Cafe for breakfast.

The famous Poh Lam Sarawak laksa, totally different from what you’d get back in Penang.

Ordered a glass of Kuching’s teh c special, which consist of tea, evaporated milk and gula melaka. The only thing that sets it apart from the ordinary Malaysian tea is the gula melaka.

The yummy Sarawak laksa.

I liked how the chopsticks came wrapped with a thin serviette.

Saw some promotion items on the wall of the coffee shop but decided against it.

06.12 am – Arrived at the airport for our 7.05am direct flight from Penang to Kuching.

“Calling all passengers on flight AK6506 to Kuching, departure gates are now open.”

One could see Penang airport undergoing minor expansion, major facelift on the way from security check-in to the departure gates.

07.06 am – I was on my seat on the plane, ready to turn to page 1 of Travel 3Sixty.

Halfway into the 2 hours flight, I couldn’t help but become hungry.

Had a tuna tortilla

with a bottle of water.

May not look that appetizing, but it was delicious!
