04.43 pm – 10 minutes later, we arrived at the huge Taipei 101 mall.
Looked up and saw Taipei 101 shrouded in mist.
We skipped everything at the mall as they only sold expensive products and
headed right towards the elevator that would bring us up
immediately to the 5th floor.
The posh dining area seen on the way to the observatory ticketing area.
Some of the photos taken during the 2010 New Year firework celebrations.
Flashed our Taiwan Youth Card and got a discount for our tickets.
Lucky for us, the lines were considerably short.
05.56 pm – Arrived at the top of Taipei 101 in the world’s fastest elevator at 1.01 kilometers per minute.
Beautiful views of the building below from the top. Loved it.
I think it’s nicest at night when all the buildings are lighted up.
The guys with Taipei 101′s mascot called ‘Damper baby’.
Spotted something familiar, the tallest twin towers in the world.
Which is now at no.5.
What amazes me is that the Burj Khalifa in Dubai is almost twice the height of Taipei 101. Crazy!
Some of the great photographs from the latest new year celebrations.
Coin operated binoculars which I doubt is used much.
06.07 pm – Arrived a level below the observation deck to the damper ball which sways the opposite direction, maintaining balance, when Taipei 101 is blown by the wind.
Huge ass shock absorbers.
We just had to take photos with the damper baby.
On the way to the exit elevators, you’ll definitely pass through this bluish section containing all sorts of stuff like corals, costumes, wood carvings, etc.
Went back. Took a shower. Came back out.
08.16 pm – Arrived in one of the most famous all you can eat ma lak steamboat restaurants in Taipei. TWD55 per person.
Man Tang Hong, located above Art Pair Optical Wear.
Mutton was my favourite although there were others like chicken, beef, etc.
The steamboat pot divider allows you to switch back to clear soup base when the ma lak gets too hot to handle.
Dividing seafood paste into bite size from the bamboo stick.
Taiwan beer for drinks.
It was a really good last night meal with great company.
With our good friends from Taiwan.
10.52 pm – The sign of the barber shop right next to
Man Tang Hong’s entrance.
Man, writing this post makes me miss Taiwan so much! The food, weather, sights and the friendly locals. (What a lousy cameraman!)
11.28 pm – Barcode for drinks.
Barcode business hours.
Barcode’s very own cocktail mix.
The usual cocktails.
The hard stuff.
Hard stuff page 2.
We all had cocktails and it felt so beach-y to me.
A highly recommended place to hang out for drinks and conversation (although it’s one of the priciest bars in Taipei).
